Bald eagles in the Kawarthas are quite active this time of year, writes wildlife photographer Dave Ellis.

This is an exciting time of year for me. It is the beginning of the mating season for bald eagles in our area so the big birds are becoming more active.

With mating season there comes a whole host of responsibilities, not just the physical act of mating. For the younger birds coming into their first mating season, they have to first find a partner. Bald eagles mate for life, so unless something happens to their mate they will spend almost every day of the rest of their lives with this partner. That is quite a commitment.
