Neutral fans were left utterly perplexed after hearing Manchester City supporters taunting their club legend Raheem Sterling during their 4-0 win over the Blues in the FA Cup

Manchester City supporters were heard ridiculing club legend Raheem Sterling during their 4-0 win over Chelsea, leaving neutral fans mystified.

Sterling, who won 10 major honours including four Premier League titles and scored 131 goals across an illustrious seven-season spell at the Etihad, moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer after falling down the pecking order in Pep Guardiola’s uber-talented side.

The England international appeared to leave Manchester a bona fide fan favourite, though it appears sections of the club’s fanbase haven’t forgiven him for his move down south, with chants of “Raheem Sterling, he’s 10th in the league” ringing out during Sunday’s FA Cup clash.

Having pulled his hamstring during the Blues’ 1-0 defeat to City at Stamford Bridge on Thursday, Sterling wasn’t even around to hear the bizarre taunt, which saw the home fans branded “horrible” on social media.

“What beef have City fans got with Sterling? It’s not like he was ever disrespectful,” one fan tweeted.

“Sterling didn’t even want to leave! City fans are horrible,” said another. A third added: “City fans mocking Sterling is so weird. The guy is literally in your top five players of all time.”

A fourth wrote: “Sterling is a bigger legend than all but Aguero, this chant makes no sense.” Even City fans questioned the chants, with one saying “Sterling was our best player” and another pointing out: “He doesn’t deserve to be disrespected by the fans.”

The 28-year-old has had a mixed start to life in west London, scoring just six times in 22 games so far this season. At times he’s looked Chelsea’s most dangerous attacker, but without the service he was routinely provided with at City, chances to shine have been few and far between.

He’s expected to miss around a month of action following his hamstring pull, joining N’Golo Kante, Reece James, Ben Chilwell, Wesley Fofana, Armando Broja, Christian Pulisic, Edouard Mendy and Ruben Loftus-Cheek on the treatment table.
