England fans have gone into meltdown after scraping a 0-0 draw against the USA in their second World Cup match, with some believing it’s Gareth Southgate’s time to go

England fans have demanded Gareth Southgate’s sacking mid-World Cup after the ‘embarrassing’ 0-0 draw with the USA on Friday.

The Three Lions endured a massive reality check following their 6-2 win over Iran as they played to an underwhelming draw against their cross-Atlantic opponents. Gareth Southgate’s side were unable to break down the USA defence and appeared on the back foot for long periods of the game.

And some England fans already feel as if they have seen enough, having taken to Twitter to call for the manager’s sacking despite them picking up four points from their opening two fixtures.

One fan tweeted: “Drawing to USA is embarrassing. Southgate should be sacked on the spot,” while another asked: “Is there any way Gareth Southgate can be sacked mid tournament?”

Others called out Southgate’s odd decision to not utilise superstars Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden by adding creativity in a game devoid of quality. Foden was only brought on late in the second-half while Alexander-Arnold was overlooked completely.

An England supporter wrote: “Every single person that watched the game could see that Foden had to come on for Mount except Southgate. He is the reason this talented England squad will never win anything.

Another commented: “I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Trent Alexander-Arnold is England’s best RB. It’s criminal for Southgate to not even feature him in this game that had no creativity whatsoever.”

Southgate’s side still top Group B but the performance was reminiscent of the one seen against Scotland in the Euros last year, after which he also received swathes of criticism. England went on to reach the final of Euro 2020, but the manager was bested tactically by Italy on home soil.

His next challenge will be facing Wales on Tuesday, who lost 2-0 to Iran.
