Arsenal transfer news: Inter Milan are interested in Balogun, and Arteta has been told that his new signing will “flop”

Arsenal has spent heavily this summer in preparation for another Premier League title challenge under Mikel Arteta next season.

The Gunners finished second to Manchester City last season, but led for much of the season, and have spent more than £200 million on new signings in an attempt to go one better this season. Declan Rice joined from West Ham for a British record fee of £105 million, while Kai Havertz cost £65 million.

Defender Jurrien Timber has joined from Ajax for £38.5 million, while William Saliab and Reiss Nelson have both signed new long-term deals. Several other incomings and outgoings are also expected, so here are the most recent Emirates rumours.

Balogun plot Balogun swoop

Inter Milan are interested in signing Folarin Balogun after pulling out of a deal to re-sign Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea.

Inter are looking to sign a new striker this summer, and according to the Athletic, they have held talks with Balogun’s representatives about a possible move to the San Siro. According to the report, a ‘bid of around €40 million (£34.3 million) is expected to arrive,’ but Arsenal values him at £50 million.

Balogun has urged Arsenal to play him or sell him, stating that he “definitely will not go on loan again,” while Arteta has hinted that he could be sold this summer. Arteta said after a pre-season friendly against Nurnberg, “He’s just staying here with us at the moment and we’ll see what happens.”

Gunners face Bitello competition

Gremio president Alberto Guerra has admitted that a number of clubs are interested in signing midfielder Bitello, but no formal bid has yet been made.

Guerra’s comments follow reports in Brazil that Arsenal was interested in the 23-year-old and had sent scouts to watch him play. However, it appears that the Gunners will face competition for Bitello’s signature.

“There are a lot of people watching Bitello, but there is no proposal, even to reassure our fans, at the moment,” Guerra told Rede Sul. Monaco may be one of the clubs “watching Bitello,” according to French outlet Foot Mercato, which reported last month that they were also interested in signing him.

Arteta told Havertz will “flop”

Following his £65 million move from Chelsea, Jamie O’Hara predicts that Havertz “will be a flop at Arsenal.”

O’Hara, who previously played for Arsenal’s rivals Tottenham, slammed the signing in response to former Gunners manager Arsene Wenger’s comments. After signing Havertz, Timber, and Rice, Wenger believes Arsenal will win the Premier League next season, but O’Hara is skeptical.

“They’ve still got a long way to go,” he admitted on talkSPORT. “Everyone is improving this season, including the teams. Kai Havertz can’t even open a barn door. He wasn’t good enough [at Chelsea], so he was let go. Havertz will be a flop at Arsenal, I guarantee it.”
